چکیده

Virtual Reality (VR) is one of the newest technological domains with revolutionary applicability for the tomorrow’s Future Internet, including visions of the Internet of Things. The sensation of total immersion in Virtual Environment (VE) is still unresolved. Therefore, our work proposes a new omnidirectional locomotion interface for navigation in VEs. The novel interface was built from an ordinary unidirectional treadmill, a new mechanical device, a motion capturing system to track the human walking and a control method using artificial intelligence techniques. A neural network is used to predict the motion of the new interface based on user’s body motion and information about VE. The feasibility of the proposed system is verified through experiments and the preliminary results suggest that the new interface performs very well in a simplest VE based on our control method.

Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network

Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...

Navigating in virtual environments with 360° omnidirectional rendering

Typical field-of-view (fov) of visual feedback in virtual reality applications is generally limited. In some cases, e.g. in videogames, the provided fov can be artificially increased, using simple perspective projection methods. In this paper, we design and evaluate different visualization techniques, inspired by the cartography domain, for navigating in virtual environments (VE) with a 360◦ ho...

A Stereoscopic Image-Based Approach to Virtual Environment Navigation

Image-Based Virtual Environments are alternative approaches for virtual reality applications to generate real world scenes in virtual environments with low computation cost. This paper presents an approach to creating interactive image-based virtual reality environments in stereoscopic modes using binocular stereoscopic omnidirectional image sequences. The Omnidirectional Binocular Stereoscopic...

Precision and Reliability Incensement of Inertial Navigation System with Rotation and Redundancy

Precision and reliability are two main performance characteristic in low-cost Inertial Navigation System(INS). Increase of precision in low-cost INS without auxiliary sensors is main challenge. Bias instability leads to position drift error in inertial navigation system. In addition, fault occurrence makes the sensor reliability is decreased. Rotation of Inertial Measurement Unit(RIMU) and use ...

A Hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS Sensor Fusion with WLFP for Flying Robo-SAR's Navigation

In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...
